Dilemma????

When I went to pick Zach up yesterday from daycare I informed the owner that we were starting to potty train Zach. I wanted to let her know so they could help in the process. I also wanted to know if I could bring his "potty" in or if they had one he could use.

She told me he was too young to start potty training. To young...maybe but that is my decision right, not hers. I do think he is "young" but he is showing the signs. I don't expect that he'll be completely potty trained this week or maybe even this year but you have to start some where.

I would think they should support what I want to do. I love all of the teachers at Zach's school but that really made me mad. I'm sure it is more work for them once they start potty training but that is what I'm paying them for. What do you think?

Wow! I definitely think she should not have said this to you. I do see both sides though. I agree with you that if Zach is showing the signs, ,you should start working with him. It won't work if the daycare isn't helping. On the other hand, after working in a daycare, I understand their situation. They should never tell you how to raise your child. BUT I remember in the 1 yr old room, we did not potty them. There just was not enough room in the bathroom for 6 kids (the ratio for 1 yr olds). Each teacher was in charge of her 6 kids. If 1 went potty, they all went in with that kid. In the 2 yr old room, they had the big bathroom with 8 chairs (ratio for 2's). You brought all 8 kids in and they waited their turn to sit on the potty. I never encountered this, but I guess if ever there was a mature 1 yr old, they could move them up to the 2's, provided there was space in that room. Daycare is pretty complicated. You should keep discussing it with them and see if they can work with you. "He is too young" doesn't cut it as a response from them.

Wow! What a dilemma! I agree with you, but it's interesting to see Angelle's viewpoint too! Ugh! Sorry I don't have any advice, but I'd love to hear how this works out!
