Only a week late, but here it goes...
Well ironically one of the first things I did Monday morning was to email Keri and let her know that despite her intuition I was not having the baby. But as she pointed out in her blog she has a knack for these things obviously!
I went to my 38 week ob appointment at 4:00 on Monday August 17th. My regular OB was out of town so I saw another Dr. in the practice. I DID not like him with Kaitlyn and I still did not like him this time. He always freaks me out. The first thing he said was your baby is huge. I'm sending you for an ultrasound tomorrow morning. Then he told me I should be induced soon. I left his office a little freaked out thinking I was having a 12 pounder or something. My regular Dr. had never said anything and the midwife I had seen the week before said this baby would be bigger than the other two (7 pounds) but she didn't seem concerned. So anyway I left and drove home.
Joe and I had asked Rosilea (Kaitlyn's old nanny) to babysit the kids so we could go out for our anniversary. We got to the restaurant and I started to feel a little weird. It felt like I was having braxton hicks contractions but they were pretty regular but mild. I thought maybe it was just because of the internal. Then as we were standing in line at the movies, they were still coming and after about 10 minutes of the movie I decided we should go to the hospital. I was 1 1/2 at the Dr. at 4 and by the time we got to the hospital at around 9 I was 3 1/2. They admitted me. I was hoping the scary Dr. wasn't on call and luckily it turned out to be the midwife who I loved. YEAH!!!
After I told EVERY one about the way they had to hold Kaitlyn in they were all aware of how quick I deliver. My contractions were still mild and about 11:30 the midwife decided to break my water to get things moving. An hour later I still hadn't progressed much so she decided to give me pitocin. This wasn't really doing much at first either so they increased the dosage. The nurse asked (actually almost begged me to get an epidural) but I said I was fine. After all, I'd done it twice before without one. Well around 3:00 am Jackson decided he was going to come and come quickly. The nurse was right. The contractions were MUCH worse after being induced. She checked me again and said I was only 6-7. Ughh...bring on the epidural. But by the time the anesthesiologist came (like 15 minutes later) I was in lots of pain. She told me I had to hold still but I really didn't think I could. So she checked me again and I was 8-9 and said it would be about another hour before I delivered...well needless to say it was more like 5 minutes and Jackson was out. They were amazing this time and the midwife got there immediately. I think I pushed for about 2 minutes!
No tearing, no complications everything was perfect. I will admit though that if I ever had to do it again (which I'm not) I would definitely get an epidural if they induced me. The uterine contractions afterward while I was nursing were more painful than I remember with the other 2 also but the nurse said that was because after your 2nd or 3rd you have muscle memory so it contracts quicker/harder something like that.
Jackson was perfect as well. 8lbs 5 oz (not 12) and 20 3/4 inches long. We got up to our room around 7am. They wanted to keep me in the hospital until Thursday but I asked if we could leave Wednesday since they weren't really doing anything for me or Jackson. I hate the hospital. Kaitlyn and Zachary came to the hospital Tuesday afternoon. Zachary wouldn't really get near him because he didn't want to wake him, but Kaitlyn was obsessed with him. She hasn't left him alone since. That first day she was rocking and singing to him. I have yet to get this on film because she wants to grab the camera whenever we try to take a picture or video of it. I'll get it though!
We left the hospital around 4:00pm on Wednesday to come home. It felt very surreal bringing home baby number 3. Stay tuned for more...
